Cochin
Large Fowl (3.2Kg-5.9Kg)
A large heavy breed with soft feathers. Known as the Shanghai in China from where it was brought in the early 1850s as a good layer and immense table bird. It is now bred for feather quality to the detriment of its utility aspects. No bantam version though in America the Pekin bantam is known as a bantam Cochin. Exceedingly docile and make very good mothers..
