Large Fowl (3.2Kg-5.45Kg) Bantam (0.91Kg-1.08Kg)

Though named after the Brahmaputra river in India this bird in reality were created in America from Shanghais (see Cochin) in 1852. A consignment of 9 birds were presented to Queen Victoria and the breed was included in the first book of British Standards. They are stately, docile, sensible birds and make good broodies and mothers though they do not lay well themselves. Easily confined by relatively low netting as they are too heavy to fly. Both large and bantam forms available.
